About City

Paris is known as the most romantic city in the world, and is home to some world famous sights that are constantly shown in travel magazines, movies, and other works of art. Paris, the capital of France, has a population of over two million people and is one of Europe's most-visited cities.
Two reasons for Paris to become city of lights. First, it was among the first European cities to use gas street lamps back in the 1860s, making it literally a City of Light (see pic below). But also because earlier, in the 18th century, Paris was a essentially a hub during the Age of Enlightenment.
As a key element of culture and tradition in Paris, fashion in the capital has a long history dating back to the 1670s, sparked by the creation of the Paris fashion press. Many believe the French owe their famous chic style to the Sun King or Louis XIV as he is otherwise known.
French culture is most commonly associated with Paris, which is a center of fashion, cuisine, art and architecture, but life outside of the City of Lights is very different and varies by region. France doesn't just have culture; the word "culture" is actually French.
